We anticipate that faculty focused on advocacy, quality improvement, and policy, an important newer faculty track that is crucial to improve child health, may encounter similar academic challenges. Since promotion criteria at many academic institutions remains dependent on scholarship and publication, insufficient mentorship and research training of education and clinical faculty remains an academic challenge.

The APA has tried to meet these challenges with development and continued support of several Scholars Programs (e.g., Education, Quality Improvement, Research, Health Policy, and New Century Scholars) which aim to address the need for training, mentorship, and sponsorship.

We are delighted to announce a new section in Academic Pediatrics, View from the APA Scholars Programs. This section provides an additional opportunity for scholarly dissemination of important work led by the Scholars Programs. We greatly appreciate the support and guidance from the leadership of the APA’s Educational Scholars Program and the Editor-in-Chief of Academic Pediatrics to create a new article submission type.
