- 1 in 5 children suffer from a mental health (MH) problem; 50% seek services; 25% receive them. Pediatricians need to address MH issues, yet are not adequately trained to do so. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended new MH competencies for all pediatricians in 2010.
